Meet the Team! Susie - Accessories Designer
What’s your role at Skinnydip ?
I’m an accessories designer at Skinnydip, I mostly do print and graphics for bags and phone cases.

Did you go to uni ? What did you study at uni?
Yep ! I just graduated, last year. I studied Textiles Design for Interior Design and accessories in Nottingham - quite different from what I do now but I love both.

What made you want to go into design ?
Art and textiles was always what Ioved the most, I’ve been creative with my hands since forever. There has never really been any other option for me !

How did you get to work at Skinnydip ?
I met one of the founders of Skinnydip at a degree show in London I was exhibiting my textiles work at. I introduced myself as I loved the brand and I used the brand as an influence in my final uni project. They invited me to do a two week design internship over the summer, and then asked me to stay for another few months, and then the rest is history !

What’s your favourite part of working at Skinnydip ?
I love reaching out to my favourite artists to work on a collaboration, and I absolutely love the variety of it - one day I’m designing phone cases, working on collaborations with my favourite artists and influencers, one day I hop on to a clothing collaboration project and one day I’m designing perfume and bedding !

Describe a day in the life -
Every single day is different and I never know what to expect each morning. But it vaguely consists of - coming into the office to be greeted by lots of parcels of samples we’ve designed, then our design team often have catch ups to see what’s performing well each week, I’ll work on some case designs - some for Skinnydip, some artist collabs and Disney designs. Usually around this time we take a tea break and rearrange our desks and organise to make all out samples look cute. Then we’ll pop out to Camden Market for some lunch, come back to more sample parcels, have some meetings for different collabs we’re working on, the biscuit trolley will often do the rounds in the office mid-afternoon if we’re lucky. I often have meetings with my favourite artists for some phone case collabs and at some point I’ll respond to my emails and scroll through Pinterest for my daily dose of inspo for more designs.

What are your current Skinnydip obsessions ?
Currently for clothing - I’ve got my eye on our Happy Face Trench Coat for spring, and in tech I absolutely love our artist collab collections - I’ve been working with Ella Chandler who’s a textiles designer and I’ve definitely got my eye on a few of her cases. We have some more exciting artist collabs that will be launching soon that I’m going to get my hands on asap …

What are your top tips for someone wanting to become a designer ?
If you’re wanting to become a designer, I’d say never stop being creative in as many forms as possible and to show off your work. And if you’re a design graduate looking to work, don’t be afraid to ask! That’s how I started here :)
