As you may already know, here at Skinnydip HQ we love a good collab! From working with sassy bloggers to your fave brands we love designing projects to give you something special. So when we had the opportunity to team up with Zatchels we were super excited! For those reading who don't know Zatchels, where have you been? Zatchels is a leather accessories brand that has been seen on Skinnydip faves like Eliza Doolittle and Jessie J. Enough said right?
We have created a limited edition collaborative bag which we are giving away to two lucky winners! Fusing our fan favourite Cactus print with Zatchels classic bag style this bag is not one to be missed! Wanna chance to win? Find out how with our Q&A with Zatchels below...
How did you start the brand?
We have always been in the leather manufacturing business but we actually started out making shoes for big high-street retailers. After gaining a wealth of experience in the leather industry we decided to launch our own accessories brand and felt handbags was a natural course for us. We wanted to offer amazing quality leather handbags that were vibrant, fun and all about colour and so in 2011, Zatchels was born.
Where do you get your design inspo form?
We are very proud to be a British handbag brand and that is something that certainly inspires us each day. Classic British designs such as the satchel, barrel bag and saddle can be seen running throughout Zatchels collections and by utilising our knowledge of working with leather we are able to introduce a whole new look, feel, and vibrancy to the designs. For AW15, expect to see heavy influences from the 70's with soft suede leathers in pretty pastel shades, statement fringing as well as an exclusive limited edition Zatchels handbag but sshh……I can't tell you any more than that!
Can you talk us through the process of making a hand crafted Zatchels bag?
We employ some of the most highly skilled leather sewing machinists and leather cutters in the country. Depending on the style and design the process will vary in complexity but each section of a bag is individually cut using powerful leather cutting presses. Buckles and labels are attached by hand before an expert team of sewing machinists bring all the components together to create the finished product.
Which 3 words sum up Zatchels?
Fun, Fashion, Colour... Heritage (sorry there's four!)
What is your favourite bag to date?
That's a difficult one but I would have to say our new animal printed ponyskin clutches. It was the first time we had used ponyskin and it proved a Summer hit. Perfect for festivals and a style which will carry you into the new season seamlessly. A new range is set to come out soon using the same leathers, which are just fantastic so watch this space.
Current collection hero piece?
I think the Kaleidoscope satchel really demonstrates what Zatchels is all about Fun, Fashion, Colour but also importantly our push for further personalisation combining lots of colours into one bag. The Kaleidoscope was designed very early on give our customers ideas as to what is possible, we set our stalls out with this bag and it's served us very well.
Whats next for Zatchels?
Our biggest highlight so far has been welcoming Her Royal Highness, The Princess Royal to our factory in Leicester last Christmas where she met and chatted with all the staff before unavailing a commemorative plaque. This was great for Zatchels as it showed that we are becoming recognised as a high quality UK manufacturer. Our leather is sourced from the UK and everything is made in the UK right down to our cloth dust bags and there aren't many companies who can boast this. We'll push on launching great new designs, hopefully continuing to grow the brand and supporting our and growing work force.
