What’s your name and where do you come from
My name is Emily and I live in South East London!
TELL US A LITTLE BIT OF BACKGROUND BEHIND THE BRAND
I started Limpet a few years ago from my parent’s garage after I finished an Illustration degree and had no idea what I wanted to do next! It’s been a few years of broken sewing machines, drawing lovely things, working two jobs and feelings of doubt – but now I feel so lucky I stuck at it and get to do what I love every day.
Each design starts off as an illustration of mine which I then turn into an embroidery - I finally feel like I’ve found a place for my drawings to exist - embroidered onto t-shirts!
Every item is animal & planet friendly which is really important to me and the brand. Limpet has a big focus on high quality clothing that makes you feel lovely when you wear it!
WHAT WOULD YOU SAY YOUR MAIN SOURCES OF INSPIRATION ARE?
I love animals & take a lot of inspiration from nature & my surroundings - luckily I split my time between London and the countryside, so I get the best of both!
My house is full of plants & original prints by artists I like which I love waking up to and I’ve recently got a thing for collecting vintage ceramic animals - the weirder looking the better!
Pop culture and my fave tv shows also play a big part in my designing process - I love the fact that Limpet is relatable to anyone and everyone!
WHAT ADVICE WOULD YOU GIVE TO SOMEONE STARTING UP SOMETHING ON THEIR OWN?
Never change your own style or dreams to suit someone else’s! There are millions of times I’ve doubted my own drawings & ideas because I worried that they wouldn’t be everyone’s cup of tea. I’ve realised that always staying true to your own style is what will set you apart from the rest - the world needs different!
Also, just start making and getting it out there as much as you can – if you wait until it’s ‘perfect’ it’ll never happen and people will love to follow your brand’s journey, including all the little mistakes that you’ll learn from along the way!
PLANS FOR THE FUTURE?
To keep making people all over the world feel amazing when they wear Limpet clothing! (and to get David Attenborough to wear the Save Our Planet tee obvs)
