Tell us about yourself?
I’m Joann, I’m 20 years old, and I’m from the Netherlands. I studied Public Administration at University and ever since I was younger, I always wanted to help people with my job, I was planning to do it in politics but now I do it through my Instagram and modelling instead.

How did you become involved with Swim Society?
I got booked for Swim Society shoot, and from day 1 I totally loved it. Montana and the team are really passionate about including everyone, all sizes, all shapes, all skin colours, which is so important to me also. The brand is just so strong. The fitting of the bikinis and swimsuits are great! They just really hug your body and show your curves off in a good way.
Give us the best BTS shoot story we didn’t get to see?
So we were shooting at the villa and Montana brought these red stick sweets and we were all literally obsessed with them and couldn’t stop eating them. When they were gone everyone was really disappointed 😂 Also Laura sat in so many funny positions to take pictures, I mean, THE DEDICATION! Honestly the best story is just that I met so many kind people and I’m so happy they brought me there!

What are your favourite pieces from the collection?
My favourite pieces are the Sydney Red Bikini, because the bottoms are so nice and the top really makes your boobs look amazing haha! I also love the Monaco Swimsuit with the cut outs, and the Society 96 Swimsuit… and the black Cannes Bikini with the ruffles. Okay actually I just like everything!!!
You’re a total body positivity ambassador, how did you get into that space? And what would your advice be to anyone struggling with their body confidence?
What really helped for me is seeing other people accept their bodies and listen to their stories and what helped for them. That’s why I started spreading it, because I really wanted to help people feel better about their bodies. I think the most important thing is to STOP comparing yourself to others, you are unique. You are one of kind and there’s no one LIKE YOU! I once read a quote that said “Just because you don’t look like someone you think is beautiful, doesn’t mean you’re not beautiful. Flowers are pretty but so are Christmas lights and they look nothing alike.”  It’s really important to remember who you are and what you stand for. Your looks aren’t everything. It’s who you are from the inside.
