When you have a blingin' Skinnydip case on its only right that your nails are perfectly painted to match. But if you're anything like the gals in the Skinnydip studio, painting our own nails is a bit of a disaster and nail varnish seems to go EVERYWHERE. We wouldn't even attempt to do our own nail art, its best to leave it to the professionals.
When the lovely Lucy from NailedIt UK got in touch about doing some Skinnydip inspired nails we were thrilled! Skinnydip cases and nail art just fit so perfectly together. Lucy has designed four sets of nails for us and we think they are FAB!
Lucy Gronner is a 21 year old, self taught nail artist who developed NailedIt, a super cool illustrated nail brand around a year and a half ago. Lucy creates innovative crazy nail sets for fashion conscience individuals and has been featured in various mags from Vogue, Elle, LOOK and Marie Claire. Between creating nail art, chilling with her two cats and attending fine art school Lucy finds time to run her business and website NailedItUK and develop new designs everyday!
How and when did you get into nail art?
I started a few years ago just practising on my friends and family. It started to become really popular amongst celebs and you'd often see nail art features and tutorials in magazines so I gave it a go and became slightly obsessed!
Any manicure tips?
Never cut your cuticles! It really damages your nails, its important to take good care especially of your nail beds as this stimulates growth. I recommend cuticle oil, I'm currently using Moroccan Roos Argon Oil which is pure and really softens your nail beds. Using a good base coat is esential too even with a plain mani - I love any of the Sally Hansen growth range and Seche Vite to top will give you a lasting finish.
What has been your favourite nail set to date?
There really are so many to choose! I've always loved art so I guess anything out of the ordinary I particualy get a buzz from. I created a set for international make up artist Karla Powell late last year for the Illamasqua Distinction of Make Up Artistry Awards, which in turn she won. Karla gave me her brief of 'Back to Roots' and I let my imagination run wild.
What's inspired your latest nail sets?
All of the sets on site are inspired by current and upcoming fashion trends. Outside of that if I'm working with magazines, brand or individuals it obviously depends on their brief. I've just finished a set for another makeup artist which was sea creature inspired, so I created a scaled gradient mermaid set placing each sequin on individually.
Where do you see the future of NailedIt?
I would love to develop the brand and perhaps branch out into a selection of manufactured press on nails. With this it would be fantastic to catch the eye of high st retailers and see where things go! I hope to continue to collaborate with brands and make NailedIt UK the go to nail art product. Who would be your ideal celebrity to design nails for?
I think Lady Gaga would let you create something outrageous which would be amazing.
Your false nails have been featured in a variety of magazines, which has been your fave so far?
Well it's always fab to be featured, but I've been reading LOOK for years so to have had the support from them a few times in various features has been fantastic. I was also invited down to their HQ to film 4 video tutorials for them, and got a double page feature in their first interactive issue which was really special.
Whats your favourite Skinnydip item?
Ooo there are so many to choose from!! I love a bit of glitz and all of the jewelled cases are out of this world. I'd have to pick the Venus case...YUM!
