We’re back and better than ever with a brand-new series of our Hate Sucks Podcast! And this time we’re making our debut comeback with 5 new ear-tingling episodes chatting about key topics with some incredible activists from the LGBTQ+ community. Our first episode is with the amazing Jamie Campbell and Emma from the inspiring Diversity Role Models charity and we’ll be discussing all about the work they do on LGBTQ+ education within schools and how they work together to shape the future generation.
The penultimate part of Jamie’s story growing up was when he was banned for simply wanting to attend his prom in drag. Jamie took his negative experiences and turned them into positives with his story from school further inspiring the west end hit musical: Everyone’s Talking About Jamie! A story all about a young boy who doesn’t quite fit in at school, the show is all about following your dreams, being yourself and highlighting the importance of self-love and self-acceptance no matter who you are. A total must-see!
“Drag is the most empowering thing ever; you release a new persona and I think everybody should do it whether you’re straight, gay, man or woman everybody should try it!”
We then delve into why Diversity Role Models as a charity are so important and imperative in education today. DRM go into schools to give talks to help young people understand the power of language and how it can affect people to widen opinions to make the world a better place. Their work is all about breaking down stereotypes and allowing children (and some adults too!) to see that we all have a difference. They also work alongside teachers and parents to try to broaden mindsets.
“We all have a difference. We should celebrate those differences rather than use those to attack each other with”
