Meet The Team! Hannah - Brands Buyer

What’s your role at Skinnydip?
Brands Buyer

Did you go to uni? Where & what did you study?
I studied History at Sussex University which included a year abroad studying at Roosevelt University in Chicago, USA. After that I did a Fashion Buying and Merchandising course at London College of Fashion when I decided this was the industry I wanted to work in.

What made you want to go into Buying?
I have always loved spotting trends and discovering new products and brands, and knew I wanted to do something that was creative and product focussed. I am also a people person so knew I would be suited to a career where I am constantly meeting new people, building relationships, and negotiating deals.

My family joke that I go shopping for a living which is true in some ways, but there’s a lot more to it than that!

What’s your favourite part of working at Skinnydip?
My job has a lot of variety which I love – beauty, tech, fashion, homeware – I buy it all! Added bonus is the lovely people and the fact that there is always something fun happening (pizza parties, Friday wine time, book club, office dogs & coaster decorating to name few!)

Describe a day in the life of a Brands Buyer?

  • Everyday is different but generally it’s a mix of;
  • Teams calls with brands
  • Emails
  • Trend and new product research
  • Reaching out to new brands (through phone, LinkedIn, email, Insta - any way you can find a contact!)
  • Meetings with Merch to review plans, quantities, OTB etc.
  • Trade meetings
  • More Emails
  • Showroom visits to select the range and see products up close.
  • Meetings with marketing team to plan brands social and digital marketing pushes
  • Even more emails.

What are your current Skinnydip obsessions?
Our camera lens covers – we have so many colours, glittery ones, glow in the dark ones, they look so cute and protect your camera lens which is vital when you’re as clumsy as I am!

Also Glow Hub Skincare, the scar slayer serum is unreal!

What are your top tips for someone wanting to become a Buyer?
Never stop asking questions there’s always more to learn, and don’t be afraid to give your opinion especially if it is different to someone else’s.
