Dirty Pote x Skinnydip: Q&A with Valentin

IF YOU COULD DESCRIBE YOUR COLLECTION IN 3 WORDS WHAT WOULD THEY BE?

On my side, I'm very inspired by my daily life in general. I really draw everything that comes to mind and I like to humanize any object that surrounds me... that's what I wanted to do here.

This collection represents me and my mood of the moment. But if I have to choose three words... I would say : GOURMAND / STREET / ECCENTRIC

What is a day in your life like?
I wake up early in the morning, I start by reading my mails and I go to the advertising agency where I work as an art director. And yes... I don't eat breakfast, I don't have time for that... I make up for it at lunchtime.
Once I get home in the evening, I start my second day as an illustrator :-)

What is a fun fact about you that you think would surprise people?
Because of the confinement due to COVID, I've gotten into the habit of talking to myself at my computer. I regulate what I do out loud. The problem is that I often do this without realising it when I'm working at the agency. It's very annoying at times especially when I start singing.

What is your favourite model of the collection and why?
My favourite model... not easy. I love them all. But the one I put directly on my phone is the one with the skeleton on the bike.

Are you going to tell me why?
Because it represents me well... I love the bike, and if you look closely on the illustration there is a poster of the movie "Jaws"... and you know why I'm completely fan of all the shark movies that exist. I've seen them all.

What’s on your bucket list?
My dream used to be to become an illustrator and work for many different brands.
Today I'm doing that, I'm very happy with that. But before I die, I want to achieve my childhood goal... I absolutely have to release a comic book. I'm working on it, but it takes a lot of time and I'm often forced to pause with all the customer requests :-)

What did you like best about working with us?
I really appreciated the creative freedom you gave me. It's a little bit different from the clients' requests which are sometimes very rigid or very oriented towards one universe. But be careful, it's sometimes more difficult to work when there is no theme hahaha.

What is the best advice you have been given?
The best advice is to have said "carte blanche" :-)

Tell us a bit about the design process. What was crucial for you in terms of the final design?
The design process was very much on the fly... depending on my mood at the time.
But what was important to me was to have a variety of themes that would touch all types of people. I also paid a lot of attention to the framing of the visuals.

And finally, and this is very important. What is your death row meal?
My death row meal.... Mmmh that's not easy. But if I really have to choose I'll take my secret spaghetti bolognese recipe... You want it? Well, you won't get it or it's not a secret anymore.
