Q&A With Ponky Wots

HEY! LET’S GET TO KNOW YOU A LITTLE BETTER. INTRODUCE YOURSELF AND TELL US MORE ABOUT YOU AS AN ARTIST

I’m Jade, 25, a potter, illustrator & animator based in Margate. My pottery is inspired by characters from stop motion animation films, which I love! I love creating and designing interesting and charming characters and bringing them to life through my illustrations and pottery.

What was the inspiration behind your collection?
I wanted my designs to be as ‘Ponky’ as possible! I wanted them to be super fun, colourful and vibrant.

Tell us a bit about how the design process worked?
I looked through my illustration portfolio and picked out designs that I thought would look amazing on a phone case. I then adjusted the designs to fit the templates by removing the backgrounds and changing the layouts of the designs, then made some tweaks to make them perfect for Skinnydip!

If you could describe your collection in 3 words what would they be?
Vibrant, Charming & eccentric!

What's your favourite design from the collection and why?
It’s so hard to choose a favourite!! I honestly can’t choose between them haha!! I love the bold strong colours and patterns in the fruity case and I really love the holographic background and complimenting colours on the cowboy one too. 🤠

What's been you favourite part of working with us?
This has actually been my first ever illustration brief and I enjoyed it sooo much! Skinnydip have been a dream and pleasure to work with, I loved the freedom I was given to create different designs and I feel our collective vision really came together!

Where do you go when you're looking for inspiration?
I look for inspiration within film, especially stop motion films with different characters and beautiful sets.

What's on your bucket list?
I have a whole list of animals I’ve never seen in real life that I’d like to see in the wild such as a moose, wombat & an armadillo (and lots more!) There’s so many wonders around the world I’d love to travel to, such as the rainbow mountains in Peru. I’d also like to create some really massive sculptures as well as publishing my children’s book too.

What's the best piece of advice you've ever been given?
Your mum is always right!

Where can people find you on socials?
You can find me on Instagram, TikTok, Pinterest & Threads (all @ponkywots) :-)
