Q&A with Ella Chandler

HEY! LET’S GET TO KNOW YOU A LITTLE BETTER. INTRODUCE YOURSELF AND TELL US MORE ABOUT YOU AS AN ARTIST

Hi! My name is Ella and I run a fashion and homeware brand called Ella Chandler Studio! I have a big love for colour and print which is in the heart of all my work.

If you could describe your collection in 3 words what would they be?
Bold, bright and fun!

What does a day in the life look like for you?
I down a coffee, kiss my dog and then get started with sewing orders which I do from home. When I have a bit of spare time I love to draw and get inspo for new print designs. Sometimes I just do rough sketches of anything that comes to my mind, I try not to put too much pressure on it to come up with new ideas, I prefer it when they come organically! Recently I have been experimenting with painting straight onto a screen and screen printing onto fabric, which is nice as I can get unexpected results from it. Evening time I unwind with a bit of yoga and relax!

What’s a fun fact about you that you think would surprise people?
I won a dance competition once at a festival and ended up backstage at ASAP Rocky, the surprising thing is I can’t dance… at all! I think the good vibes counted.

What’s your favourite design from the collection and why?
I think the green Ziggy print - it’s bold and packs a punch!

What’s on your bucket list?
Going to Japan!!!
 
What’s been your favourite part of working with us?
Working with such a lovely designer! Always makes the job easy :) 
 
What’s the best piece of advice you’ve ever been given?
Don’t cut corners!
 
Tell us a bit about how the design process worked? What was key for you with regards to the final designs?
My designs usually come from hand illustrations/ screen prints which I then edit within Photoshop. I really wanted to make sure the collection showed a variety of colour and prints that bring a bit of fun into the world. 
 
And lastly, and very importantly. What’s your dream meal?
I love Korean BBQ! Beef Bulgogi is close to my heart with a ton of kimchi and a ice cold beer.
