Q&A with Eva Malley

HEY! LET’S GET TO KNOW YOU A LITTLE BETTER. INTRODUCE YOURSELF AND TELL US MORE ABOUT YOU AS AN ARTIST

I'm Eva, 24, illustrator and creative based in Bristol! I primarily work full-time running my online shop, but I also do commission based work for clients like Adidas, TikTok & Vans, and I've just started tattooing a couple days a week. My work is fun and bold, and I take a lot of inspiration from the beauty of everyday life.

What was the inspiration behind your collection?
I wanted a collection that felt very authentically 'me'. I have some common features that appear often in my work such as checkerboard, plants, doodles and girls, and so wanted my phone cases to reflect that and be instantly recognisable.

Tell us a bit about how the design process worked?
I went through some of my favourite illustrations I've created over the years and narrowed it down to my top designs. I then digitally altered them by moving things around, re-drawing areas and editing colours to make them translate to phone cases. Some designs are brand new and some are edits of my most popular works throughout the years.

If you could describe your collection in 3 words what would they be?
Playful, pattern, detail.

What’s your favourite design from the collection and why?
I honestly love them all so much it's hard to choose, but I think Housemates is probably my favourite (I have it on my phone right now) as it's my best-selling design for the past 3 years and seeing it in a different format is so cool. It looks amazing on a phone, the detail looks very eye-catching and I know so many people will love it just as much as me.

What’s been your favourite part of working with us?
The total freedom I've had with the creative process! Whilst helping me every step of the way to ensure we create a cohesive beautiful collection together

Where do you go when you’re looking for inspiration?
So much of my inspiration comes from my everyday life and the women I surround myself with. Going to hang out with some friends for the day will leave me with fresh ideas on what to draw next.

What does a day in the life look like for you?
Typically it goes like this: gym, emails, pack orders, then either tattoo or work on illustration work, then in the evening I'll put on some trashy reality tv and draw on my ipad all night.

What’s a fun fact about you that you think would surprise people?
My job involves being a social media 'influencer' but I absolutely HATE and always have hated being in front of a camera. If someone whips out their phone to take a candid of me it will ruin my day haha.

What’s on your bucket list?
Travel more! I'd love to do a solo trip, or be invited to tattoo in another country, or do an exhibition abroad... something that could combine my love for travel and art would be amazing.

What’s the best piece of advice you’ve ever been given?
Oh god I do really love a cringey quote and one I try to live by is "If you can't beat the fear, do it scared". I used to let anxiety hold me back from so many experiences throughout my life but I really try to push myself now, and even if I feel anxious I'm still going to attempt it in some way.

Where can people find you on socials?
I'm @evamalleyart on pretty much every social media out there! Come see what I get up to when I'm not designing phone cases :-) My website is https://evamalley.com/
