Q&A with Hollie Graphik

HEY! LET’S GET TO KNOW YOU A LITTLE BETTER. INTRODUCE YOURSELF AND TELL US MORE ABOUT YOU AS AN ARTIST

Hey! I'm Hollie, the gal behind HollieGraphik! My style is mainly bold and bright typography with lots of fun, colour and nostalgia. I'm mostly inspired by music, popular culture, and vivid, bold colours... oh plus I'm an absolute font fiend.

What was the inspiration behind your collection?
My collection is all about feeling good (as hell!) and bringing a bit of colour and good vibes to your phone. So I wanted to bring that into the designs - hopefully I've achieved that!

Tell us a bit about how the design process worked?
I first looked at all my previous work to see what ideas it could spark, peppering in some colours, phrases and vibes I wanted to bring into the collection. I collated the details I wanted and played around with some type and colours before bringing them into the template, where it was then houuurs of work (and fun!). I then looked at bringing in some retro, bold type paired with bright colours, smiley faces, prints and elements like stars and sparkles for that something extra. Fun fact: I actually designed 22 cases - it was hard work picking the final 5!

If you could describe your collection in 3 words what would they be?
Joyful, vibrant, playful

What’s your favourite design from the collection and why?

I keep reaching for either Disco Lovers Club (the disco ball is life) or You're So Golden. The colours, type and pattern on both are a bit of me.

What’s been your favourite part of working with us?
Just getting to work with a dream brand (I've been buying Skinnydip since I was much younger!), vibing the ideas with you and seeing the designs come to life with the samples. Seriously a biggg wow moment x
 
Where do you go when you’re looking for inspiration?
I tend to have a font hunt, and then make some colour palettes. The best ideas flow naturally when I get that 'vibe'! I generally avoid pinterest - the most natural work of mine comes from just playing around for hours with new fonts, colours and layouts on photoshop/illustrator. Most of my best ideas come from unexpected places like nature, music and also so many ideas always come to me when I'm swimming. I literally design the print in my head mid front crawl then scramble to the notes on my phone to write them all down! Basically I never have any down time haha!
 
What does a day in the life look like for you?
Lots of packing orders, prepping social posts, customer emails, receiving deliveries (I'm always ordering so.much.packaging) and if I'm lucky a bit of design work for new collections!
 
What’s a fun fact about you that you think would surprise people?
I used to be a Photographer, studying it at college and uni... then I subsequently won Young Photographer of The Year many moons ago - got to shoot the NME awards 2008! 
 
What’s on your bucket list?
Do a tour of the USA - which I'm finally getting to do on my honeymoon this year! Vegas here I comeee
 
What’s the best piece of advice you’ve ever been given?
Something along the lines of 'If you want something, go for it. Go live your dream, life is too short' I've been living that dream since I left my job and made HollieGraphik my full-time gig. It really is my life's dream!
